Mindanao Relief Efforts

NIKKO TAYTAY PHOTOGRAPHY and its subsidiaries, StepONE Workshops and HAPPY CLIQUES Photobooth join the relief drive to our flood stricken brothers and sisters in Mindanao. We will be sending our tarpaulin banners and backdrops (usually used in photobooths as background) which can be used as tents or temporary shelters, together with some goods to CDO.

To all our clients and workshop graduates who also wish to extend a helping hand, you may also channel your donations (in kind) through us; just drop them at our office by tomorrow.

We also urge our fellow photographers, studios, photobooth operators, and tarpaulin printers in the industry to do the same.

Judging for Public Service

Last September 26, 2011 I was invited to be one of the judges of the Give It Your Best Shot! Photography Contest which was organized by the Provincial Government of Laguna headed by Governor Jeorge ER Ejercito Estregan through the Provincial Information Office (PIO). Together with noted Laguna photographers @Butch Macalagay and Ali Badulis, this project, which is in line with the 111th Anniversary Celebration of the Philippine Civil Service, was a tremendous success. Thank You Provincial Government of Laguna and congratulations to all the winners and participants!!!

The Wedding and Portrait Photographers of CALABARZON recently had its first formal General Membership Meeting last October 12, 2011 at Ginazel's in Batangas City. From the initial 27 photographers who attended the September Grand Eyeball held in Kubo Kubo Tagaytay last September 4, a total of 43 wedding photographers from the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon attended the event and were considered legal founding members of this new photography organization.

The WPPC had its Election of Officers and came up with the first board and officers of the organization. Emerging from the election are the new Board and Officers of the WPPC:

President: Louie Reformado (Cavite)
VP Internal: Louie Allan Naguit (Laguna)
VP External: Orly Mercado (Laguna)
Secretary: Elmer Castor (Batangas)
Treasurer: Norman Morales (Batangas)
Auditor: Nikko Taytay (Laguna)

Bussiness Manager: Nick Olayao (Cavite)

After the election, a model shoot was also held during the meeting. WPPC Associate Member, Hazel Faytaren was the Make-Up Artist for models, Rizz Ebreo and Rachel Abel, while WPPC Member, Claire Manila Lirio provided the gowns.

National Epilepsy Lay Symposium 2011

The Epilepsy Awareness and Advocacy Inc. (EAAI) in cooperation with the Philippine League Against Epilepsy (PLAE) conducted the National Epilepsy Lay Symposium 2011 at the Ilocos Norte Provincial Capitol Auditorium last September 14, 2011.

The symposium aims to provided epilepsy education to Barangay Health Workers in the Ilocos Norte Province, as well as to other health professionals, epilepsy patients and their families in the area.

Epilepsy School Caravan 2011 - Ilocos Norte

Last September 13, 2011, the EAAI traveled up north in Ilocos Norte for the National Epilepsy Congress and Lay Symposium 2011. During our first day in Ilocos, we helped out in the Epilepsy School Caravan being held at the North Western University in Laoag, Ilocos Norte. Elementary school students were educated by doctors on what is epilepsy and what should they do in case an epilepsy attack happens to one of their classmates in school. This way kids, even at an early age are educated properly regarding this illness, thus eliminating such stigma and discrimination for PWE's most especially kids.

Celebrating the 10th year of the Presidential Proclamation that the first week of September be known as National Epilepsy Awareness Week, doctors, patients, pharmaceutical companies, and other friends and supporters held a thanksgiving dinner last September 3, 2011 at the Club Filipino in Greenhills, San Juan.

As an active epilepsy advocate via the EAAI, I was invited to this intimate gathering which was led and hosted by the Philippine League Against Epilepsy (PLAE).

PLAE Negosyo Fair

The Philippine League Against Epilepsy (PLAE) held its first PLAE Negosyo Fair last September 3, 2011 at the Philippine General Hospital. This FREE livelihood training workshop on Soap Making, Meat Processing and Health Massage is designed exclusively for epilepsy patients and their families to help them financially with their maintenance medicine. I, being an epilepsy advocate for several years now was also there to help out and extend my services for Persons With Epilepsy (PWE).

Last September 4, 2011, professional wedding and portrait photographers based in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon (CALABARZON) converged in unity to form on what could be one of the largest professional photography organizations in the country today, the Wedding and Portrait Photographers of CALABARZON (WPPC). The last day of my 3-day seminar on basic photography, held last February 15-17, 2011 at Boston Cafe in Los Banos.

For the past three days, I have seen these students develop an eye for detail and art. From minute comments on photos like "nice shot!" to giving out constructive criticisms, these photographers have learned to see the world in a different light, see photographs not only as pictures but as images. Learned the true essence of photography, and how to create images in the purest way.

I've been an epilepsy advocate for the past 6 years, supporting the Philippine League Against Epilepsy (PLAE) and being a member of the Epilepsy Awareness and Advocacy Inc. (EAAI). For the past years, I have been rendering my services to their programs for free and will be creating future projects through the use of photography and media as a medium to spread public awareness about epilepsy.

Anyway, here's a photo contest by the International Bureau of Epilepsy (IBE), maybe some of you would be interested in joining.

Here's a late entry from 2010. The Epilepsy Exemplar Awards 2010 held at the GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Auditorium in Makati City last September 8, 2010. Below is a news excerpt from The Daily Tribune:

The Philippine League Against Epilepsy (PLAE), in partnership with leading research-based pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), recently unveiled the winners of the 2010 Epilepsy Exemplar Awards. PLAE — a non-profit national organization of health professionals, which advocates the education, research and prevention of epilepsy — holds the awards program every other year, to distinguish epilepsy patients who have displayed exceptional personal achievements. The awardees serve as ambassadors, in order to promote epilepsy awareness and inspire other Filipinos who suffer from this neurological disorder. “We hope to create more advocates in sharing the right information about this often-misunderstood condition and in the process, provide support for patients,” explained Noel de los Reyes, GSK marketing manager. “With the right treatment and care, epilepsy patients can enjoy safe and lasting control of their seizures, which will allow them to lead normal lives. Being diagnosed with epilepsy should not stand in the way of achieving one’s dreams,” De los Reyes concluded. Winners for this year are Pearl Estrada, a psychologist who has been conducting research about the psychological effects of epilepsy in women; Monica Manalo, a reading teacher in a leading educational institution, and Louise Aguilar, a second year high school student with various academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular achievements.

Its been a year since I started the Neutral Ground project, and never had I imagined that this humble idea of unifying a couple of camera clubs in one forum be this big today that it had exceeded its primary expectation when it was put up in July 15th last year.

Who would have thought, amidst the many criticisms and skepticism that this project would not go through and last, well gone are those days.

Here we are celebrating its first year! To date, we now have 1700 members composed of mostly Filipino photography enthusiasts both local and foreign based, over 50 camera clubs/groups. To cap all things, we've come up with the cherry on the icing! The Neutral Ground 1st Anniversary Exhibit!

Over 200 photos by 86 of NG's best photographers all over the world!

We had the exhibit's launch and anniversary grand eyeball last Friday, July 24th and it was a blast! So in behalf of the Neutral Ground moderators and exhibit volunteers, I thank you for all the support for this project!

Enjoying Photography without Walls and Boundaries

Neutral Ground will be having its first anniversary exhibit running at the lobby of the Philamlife Center in UN Avenue, Ermita, Manila from July 21-31, 2009. The ribbon cutting and network’s grand-eyeball will be on July 24, 2009, Friday at 6:30 PM.

Sponsored by Canon Marketing Philippines, Aperture Trading, Jo Avila Photography Workshops, Philamlife Insurance Company, Manila Bulletin’s Picture Perfect, and The Philippine Star, the exhibit features over two hundred of Neutral Ground’s best of the best photos accumulated within the year from its inception last July 2008.

The exhibit will also be for the benefit of ESL.Light for Life, a mission to save kids with cancer.

The Neutral Ground is an interactive photography network of over 1500 members and 50 camera club organizations from here and abroad with one common goal in enjoying photography without walls and boundaries.

Shot this wedding as a "guest cum official photographer". Ani was my fellow co-volunteer in Lighthouse Media. I also worked with her in BlueZebra Media Productions on some of their advertising/corporate photo projects.

It was a laid back, relaxed coverage. I was really "at home" doing this project, a lot of Lighthouse people was all over the place. Little Ani is sweet and bubbly as always, his groom, Gerry, was a cool guy too! I'm glad this two ended up together, congrats Ani and Gerry!

Got My Red Mobile Sim Today, Goodbye U-Mobile!

As we all know Smart already bought U-Mobile hence, we now have Red Mobile (the new and repackaged U-Mobile).

Red Mobile replaced all existing U-Mobile users with a new sim loaded with P200. I got my new red sim just now, after almost a month of waiting! haay!

I just didn't like the new prefix on the RM number - "938", I wished they had retained the old U-Mobile prefix "999" which I think is way cooler... and also the thing is this new sim requires only 3G handsets coz it will use full 3G signal... kaya sorry nalang on old umobile 2G phone users coz the new red sim will not work on em. That goes for me too coz I already disposed my 3G phone and is now using a dual-sim 2G... haay! so I guess I have to get a 3G phone if ever I decide to use this sim...

I'm currently using smart and sun in my dual sim phone, well anyways, if ever I use it and get a 3G handset, here is my new Red Mobile number - 0938-5200684.

1920's Themed Pre-Debut Shoot!

Last Sunday I had a wonderful time shooting a pre-war era themed pre-debut pictorial. The shoot was held at the ancestral house of former Senator Tolentino in Quezon City. The debutante, Camille Calderon was great and easy to work with, I really didn't have a hard time directing her poses.

Camille's debut party, which will also be 1920's inspired will be held on December 6, 2008 at Ding Hao Restaurant in Calamba City.

Somebody "Hijacked" My Site and Now Profiting Over My Name!

My www.nikkotaytay.com domain name have expired last May, since then it has been parked at godaddy.com until it gets renewed.

Now I was planning to renew the registration this week until I found out that somebody already bought it. To my surprise this person still used my name as the title to the new website - Nikko Taytay Reviews - an SEO Article website, wherein this person posts his articles under the name of Nikki! (sheesh!)

How could someone use some other person's site and name and claim it as his??!!!

This guy may be even be profiting over the use of my sites domain name and most likely my name, I've just learned that my name registers a lot of hits when you search it at google and other search engines.

Now my problem is every time one would google out my name - www.nikkotaytay.com always comes first over my other personal/photography sites! Now my prospective clients would be confused when they search for me and stumble upon this site with write-ups about losing weight, video games, acne treatment, vacations, diet pills, and a whole arsenal more!
And he even has his archived dated since 2007 which is totally bogus because my original photography website was up and running last year.

Greiving For The Loss Of My "Little Brother"

Its a sad day today at home. All is at lost. A family member just left us. A trusted friend, and baby brother that I never had... goodbye Keanu.

Its the first time I ever shed tears on a loss of a pet, Keanu was more of a pet, we treated him as family, and a real Taytay.

Im in tears right now as i write this blog. His loss is to overwhelming for me, I just can't take the fact that when I get home tonight no will ever welcome me at the doorstep again.

So long my little friend, so long my little brother.

Career Talk @ IFL

Yesterday my good old high school barkada, Jed Reyes, who is now a missionary teacher for High School students invited me to do a Career Talk for his students at the Institute for Foundational Learning in Cabuyao, Laguna.

The talk was in line with their Business Administration topic in their T.H.E. subject. The theme of my talk was Small Business Entrepreneurship In A Christian Setting (nose bleed!). It was my first time to do such talk - and man it was totally different from teaching a photo class!

Anyway, I really had a great time doing my first ever Career Talk, I feel entirely different about myself after the talk... inspiring the youth to start up a business and never see themselves to be just a plain employee drone in the future wasn't really that bad. Even I really got inspired to see these kids aspiring for more in their life and thinking out of the box at a very young age.

These kids inspired me more. Most of these students are orphans, abused and abandoned, they are sponsored / adopted by the institute where they are now living normal lives slowly blooming to take on the world. And just like what I shared to them in making that "BIG MOVE" of becoming businessmen and women even at a young age, our dreams (BIG DREAM), with the help of our Lord (BIG GOD), will not be dreams anymore but reality, all we have to do is focus on Him and believe (BIG FAITH) that He will do the rest.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

A Scene From My Class

My photo class for the I AM Workshops of Lighthouse Christian Community - Youth Outreach Ministry is now on a roll. Right now I have 13 students (and still counting) that I am teaching the wonders and fun of the craft that I love.

The workshop runs for three (3) months every Saturday and will conclude on September with a photo exhibit.

I'm so excited with this class that I'm teaching with, they are so full of eagerness and excitement to learn. Most of them are first time photography enthusiasts, I even have two twelve-year-old kids who don't have a camera but is still serious to join and "wants to be the best photographers" when they grow up!

These kids got a lot of dreams and even visions in them, in the next weeks to come, I'll be teaching them not only photography but also inspire them to reach for their dreams and make their visions a reality with the help of their perseverance and of course, the Lord by their side.

Yes, it may be difficult teaching teens of different ages (from 12 - 25 i think), all with different backgrounds and "temperaments", other don't even have a camera, others have a point-and-shoot and some have (D)SLRs! - Yes I've got one helluva mixed breeds here and I am gonna teach them together all in a single class for three months for FREE!

Well as the Bible would always say, I can do anything with Christ Jesus who strengthens me! and I will live to that.

What a night! My last harvest last night in the South-X monthly meeting were two 3rd placers from the Still Life and the Aliwan Festival OTS.

Congratulations to the other winners in Still Life - Kristel Maraña (1st) and Cesar Esguerra (3rd); and in the Aliwan Festival OTS which was dominated by Apol Bejer who bagged both 1st and 2nd places.

I AM - Update

I will be conducting a FREE basic photography workshop for HIGH SCHOOL
and COLLEGE STUDENTS (Out of School Youth are also Welcome).

This
is in line with the I AM Youth Workshops of Lighthouse Christian
Community in Alabang, Muntinlupa. Other workshop classes include Media
Production (Video & Audio Editing), Singing, Dancing (Breakdance,
Streetdance, Krumping, and Jazz), Musical Instruments, and Stage Acting.

The
I AM workshop will run for 6 mos. wherein my Photography class will be
on for 3 months - every Saturdays in two sessions (morning and
afternoon).

Again this is FREE. The only requirement is that
you should be in High School or College Level (Please bring your school
IDs)... and of course in my class, a camera (digital P&S or DSLR)
is an extra requirement.

We already started with the workshop
general assembly and orientation last Saturday, Classes will officially
start this Saturday. Enrollment is still open till saturday, you can
join in a maximum of 3 subjects.
